We were invited by Takusekai Europe to take part in an exhibition with several other gyotaku artists in the beautiful city of Rennes, France. A non-stop joyous event where we all worked together, learned from each other, and enjoyed everyone’s company. It was truly wonderful and I cannot wait to be reunited with everyone again soon.
This exhibition and workshop has long been in discussion ever since before the Covid Pandemic.
Now, finally, it is becoming a reality! Really looking forward to this one!
Got interviewed by “The New Yorker” in regards to the anglerfish that we printed for the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles! Short blurb of me at the very end of the article. So grateful to be a part of all this!!
After weeks of keeping it all under wraps, we are finally able to share the gyotaku art that we were invited to create of this ultra rare and pristine Pacific Footballfish. A type of deep sea Anglerfish that is only one of about 30 adult female specimens ever found.
The preserved anglerfish and our gyotaku art will be on display for a limited time at the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County starting August 25th and ending on November 29th!
Reproduction prints at various sizes will be available for purchase on our Etsy store and eventually at the museum itself.
But before you head over to purchase a print, do take a look at the video and the article released by the NHMLA regarding the fish and the creation of the gyotaku print!
A very rare Pacific Footballfish in pristine condition made international news when it washed up at Crystal Cove and we received the privileged invitation by the Los Angeles County Museum of Natural History to go and print it before they preserved the deep sea fish. The original print has been gifted to the museum and we will share the result when the museum makes the official announcement of a short exhibition!
We’ve teamed up with PELAGIC GEAR to create a unique Spring lineup! Check out their shorts in particular as the gyotaku images appear when it gets wet!
