PROJECT SELVA: Amazon Rainforest Conservation in Iquitos, Peru

When gyotaku artist and mentor, Heather Fortner’s health began to suffer, she asked me if I would take her place as teacher of San Antonio Zoo’s Project Selva, a conservation project that collaborates with local indigenous groups in and around Iquitos, Peru. I wish she was still alive to see her beloved students smile and flourish. I am grateful to be welcomed to this wonderful group, eager to spread awareness of the very special place that they call home.
