Marbled Butterfly Koi I

from $750.00
sale

Gyotaku of large butterfly Koi by Dwight Hwang, combining several disciplines into one piece - gyotaku, suminagashi and urauchi (fish printing, ink marbling, & wet mounting) to create an elegant piece reminiscent of old Far East Asian ink paintings.

Created by first printing this large butterfly koi onto paper, then taking the successful prints and dipping it into a bath of swirling ink, and lastly wet mounting to flatten for a clean, formal presentation resulting in this underwater deity of the orient. Grateful to have three attempts make it to a pleasing completion, as quite a few failed throughout the spontaneous nature of the three processes employed.
